About the Role
This role will support a provincial nonprofit organization dedicated to equity, diversity, inclusion, and gender-based violence prevention. The position will provide meaningful training and experience in nonpartisan politics, government relations, policy development, research, and community leadership. The successful candidate will gain hands-on exposure to a wide range of projects, develop practical professional skills, and contribute to work that strengthens democratic participation and safety for women and gender-diverse leaders.
Tasks and Responsibilities
The consultant will work closely with the PEI Coalition for Women’s Leadership team to develop clear strategies for increasing diversity among political party nominees, with particular attention to engaging women, gender-diverse, and youth demographics. This will include conducting research on provincial, territorial, national, and international best practices for engagement strategies, and identifying policy changes that support greater inclusion in political spaces. The position will also support new policy projects within the Coalition that focus on preventing technology-facilitated violence (TFV) and the gender-based forms of this violence (TFGBV), particularly as it affects women and gender-diverse leaders in public roles. The Policy Consultant will help create policy tools and strategic recommendations for government, political parties, businesses, and other nonprofit organizations to strengthen their ability to prevent and respond to the abuse of technology by bad actors in our society.
The role also includes supporting other organizational projects through research, planning, budgeting, evaluation, facilitation, communications, and outreach activities connected to ongoing work funded through a variety of federal, provincial and foundation grants. Previous experience is an asset but not required - creativity, flexibiity, independent working style, strong communication skills, and passion for advocacy and change are indicators of fit for this role and the organization.
Youth who hold identities that are under-represented in leadership will be prioritized for this position. This includes youth who are racialized, members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, gender diverse, living with a disability, or residing in a rural area. The PEI Coalition for Women's Leadership is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion, recognizing that those with intersectional identities are more likely to face barriers to employment opportunities.
